2nd Prague Short Film Festival

2nd Prague Short Film Festival , organized by Karlovy Vary IFF under the auspices of the capital city of Prague, will take place on November 15–18, 2006 in Prague's Svetozor cinema. The festival will again present in its competition and non-competition sections the best short films created last year by young talented filmmakers around the world. In addition it will include short films made by renowned directors before they rose to stardom.

Prague Short Film Festival is a competitive Festival of short films. Its aim is to contribute to the development and promotion of artistic short films and their production. The Festival is organized by Film Servis Festival Karlovy Vary, a. s., located at Panská 1, 110 00, Praha 1, Ceská republika, Phone: +420 221 411 011, Fax: +420 221 411 033, E-mail: info@pragueshorts.com, www.pragueshorts.com The 2nd Prague Short Film Festival will take place in Prague from November 15 till 18, 2006.

The Festival program involves:

  1. an international competition of short films (maximum 20 minutes in length)
  2. non-competitive informative film programs, retrospectives, homage profiles and other accompanying events. Films in non-competitive informative sections can have a maximum length of 45 minutes.

The Festival accepts fiction short films only. The Festival does not accept animation, documentary or industrial films. Only works produced after January 1, 2005 can be included in the competition. The films in competition should be presented as Czech Premieres (this does not apply to the films chosen for the short films program presented at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival 2006). Only films on 35mm prints or on BETA SP PAL in good technical condition, and provided with English subtitles, can be accepted into the competition and non-competitive sections. All films will be shown with Czech electronic subtitles.

Technical requirements for BETA SP PAL tapes:
Only non-anamorphic 16/9 (“4/3 letterbox”) will be accepted.
Allocation of audio tracks:
- mono: identical phased sound on tracks 1 and 2
- stereo: left channel on track 1, right channel on track 2
Tracks 3 and 4 must be clear CLEARED of any audio signal.

The Jury will award the following prize in the international short films competition:

  • Grand Prix plus 5,000 EUR awarded to the best short film.

The financial award belongs to the director of the award-winning film. This award may not be attributed ex-aequo.

Additionally, the Jury may award up to a maximum of

  • two Special Jury Mentions

Award-winners are expected to attend the closing ceremony and to mention the award as announced, nationally as well as internationally, in their publicity and promotional materials.
